Optional Girls 2006 Competition Results

OPEN CLASSES

Our Recreational Programs are designed to meet the needs of children in their formative years.  Our enthusiastic instructors will provide a time of fun and fitness through gymnastics-oriented activities.  Both the Massie Court and Bond Road gyms offer a safe and friendly environment for your child to experience new and exciting challenges each week!  Lessons include training on vault, bars, beam and floor with modifications to the activities and equipment to fit the special needs of each age group.  Children also experience reading readiness, comprehension, and vocabulary through continued learning of fine motor development, spatial awareness, and gymnastics technology.

We offer a large selection of class opportunities, ranging from our Parent Participation/Tot classes to our Girls/Boys Basic 3 classes.  A maximum ratio of 9 students per instructor ensures plenty of attention for each child!  The Byer's Girls Program is based on the USA Gymnastics Development Program.  We offer classes for girls from the time they can walk to top Elite level gymnasts and for boys from the time they can walk through beginning levels.  They are placed in classes based on ability and age.  We make every effort to make sure that children are not only challenged in their learning but always feel successful while doing so.

The following is a brief description of each of the level of classes that we offer:

PARENT PARTICIPATION

Age Walking up to 3 years old

Parent and child participate together in this movement exploration class.  It is a wonderful way to introduce hand-eye coordination, motor skills and listening skills.  Parents follow along with their child through age appropriate circuits that can include trampoline, low balance beam, and low bar.   Music is also used with "Lummi Sticks" as a way for hand-eye coordination and listening by following along with the music, instructor and parent(s).  Children at this age are introduced to reading readiness, comprehension, and vocabulary through fine motor development, spatial awareness, and gymnastics technology.

TOTS

Age 3

Children learn to be independent in this class.  This class attends once per week for 50 minutes.  The students will continue to learn hand-eye coordination, motor and listening skills.  Basic skills are introduced using floor, beam, bars and trampoline circuits using size appropriate equipment and through music with "Lummi Sticks".

KINDERGYM 1 and 2

Ages 4 and 5

Our kinder classes are for both boys and girls.  Gymnasts attend class once per week for 1 hour.  Each week the classes spend time on floor and alternate with various other activities including trampoline, tumble track, and circuits.

SPECIALTY CLASSES

Our specialty programs follow the USA Gymnastics Junior Olympic Program.  This program has 4 levels, level 1 being the easiest and level 4 being the most difficult.  Each level has specific skills and routines that the gymnast will be tested on after they are mastered.  As each level is passed, the gymnast moves to the next level, learning more difficult skills and routines; this does not always mean they must move class times.  Gymnasts not only work on the skills and routines for the level they are trying to pass but on skills for higher levels.  Strength and flexibility is also a large focus of these groups, as we believe that the stronger the gymnast the more easily the skills are achieved.  The gymnasts in each of these programs are trained with competition readiness in mind.  Byers Gymnastics starts competition at Level 4, after the gymnast passes testing for level 4 and is competition ready.
